Daniel Neiden BioIn a recent survey, it was decided unequivocally that Jews of Eastern European heritage are the funniest people on the planet.  Here in the United States, based on anecdotal research (as evidenced on television), Nebraska is clearly one of the states that has produced some of the funniest men in the US (Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett, Harold Lloyd, et al).

Daniel Neiden is a Jew of Eastern European heritage. He was born and raised in Lincoln Nebraska.

With a background like that, is it any wonder he is now based in New York, where his work as writer, composer, lyricist, actor and producer has earned him an Emmy, along with regular stints on television, and frequent bylines in magazines such as Playboy?

Neiden (Songs/Book TEMPEST) wrote the music for WELCOME TO TOURETTAVILLE, a remarkable look at Tourette Syndrome (book/lyrics by June Rachelson-Ospa), which played the Kennedy Center for members of Congress and more than 10,000 school children, since late 2000. www.tourettaville.com

Dr. John arranged and recorded TOURETTAVILLE's "One Of A Kind You," with a band including Saturday Night Live's Lenny Pickett and Shawn Pelton, Bob Dylan's bassist: Tony Garnier, and 16 New York Philharmonic strings.  That recording became an animated film project which Daniel is producing and directing. Look for Daniel/June's next musical collaboration RAPUNZARELLA WHITE.

As producer:  HANNAH SENSEH at the Cherry Lane Theater, NUCLEAR FOLLIES at the Village Gate, NO MORE WAITING at the Duplex, and THE KINDNESS CONCERT AT BRYANT PARK.  Currently developing WAITING FOR LEFTY as a musical piece.

As an actor, Daniel has worked in various media with Nora Ephron, Bill Plympton, Todd Solondz, Liz Swados, Allen Ginsberg, and Larry Fishman.

Daniel created more than a dozen roles Off-Broadway (he's pretty sure he came up with the word, "Jewsical") at venues including Manhattan Theater Club, NYSF, Delacorte Theater, and Brooklyn Academy of Music. He toured nationally with Broadway shows including INTO THE WOODS; FIDDLER with Herschel Bernardi and Theodore Bikel; BABY with Edie Adams, and THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG with Victor Garber and Anita Gillette. Soaps, Pilots and many national commercials round out the list.

He received a regional EMMY Award for voicing the title Character of MAD MATH (Learning Channel).

A graduate of Drake University and the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, Daniel is a lay-Cantor, Justice of the Peace, has written for Playboy, been a weekly humorist on Good Day New York, continues to work on his documentary about "Blue" comics from the 50's (starring Dudley Moore, Joan Rivers and Jerry Stiller), and collects LP's of Peter and the Wolf and Tubby the Tuba.

And though he didn't go to school there, he still avidly follows and roots for Big Red, the famed Uniiversity of Nebraska football team.
